I never would have pegged Eureka to be a job town, let alone a hub. To me, it was always like Cape Girardeau—busy as hell for part of the year, but sort of a Ghost Town the rest of the year (not literally, of course, but the population sure does dwindle for part of the year!).
Eureka is where Six Flags is, which means that during the summer and fall months, it’s extremely busy. My husband used to sub at a restaurant there as a manger in the winter, back when we were in the restaurant business, and he said it was so boring it was hard to stay awake during his shift!
But now it seems like every new job you hear about is in Eureka. The paper is full of them, even this far (nearly an hour's drive) away. Even the company that laid him off moved down there. So if you have the gas or a carpool buddy, that might be the place to look if you’re seeking employment. And hey, it couldn’t hurt being so close to so many great roller coasters, could it?
